Metallized board on sheetfed UV: stock, lamp, and film weight before you start
Gold and silver board do not absorb ink. Match the lamp and the film weight before the first pull, or the sheet stays tacky.
Name the board before you name the ink
Gold card and silver card are closed surfaces. Conventional oxidative ink is for paper that can take some vehicle: coated art, white board, offset paper, and grey-back white board. It is the wrong default on metallized board.
HuiRun’s current UV quotes start here. LOCOER UV-G’s catalog also names coated paper and film. Those still need a trial on the real sheet. A metallic ink printed on art paper is not the same job as ink on gold board.
- Write gold card or silver card, plus the mill and the grammage.
- Say if a primer or a film laminate is already on the sheet.
- Do not send “fancy paper” as the stock line.
- Keep conventional tins off this job unless a trial on that exact board already passed.
- Adhesion is a tape test on the printed sheet, not a catalog adjective.
Lamp first, then the tin
Mercury UV and LED-UV are different inks. The related article covers why the photoinitiators do not swap. On metallized board the mistake shows up fast: the film sits on the surface, so a mismatched lamp leaves a tacky skin.
Before the first make-ready, read the lamp type on the press, not the word “UV” on the job bag. If the modules are LED, ask for wavelength and power. That belongs on the RFQ, which is a separate note this week.
Film weight on a surface that will not drink
A heavy film that would still set on coated board can undercure on gold card. Speed, number of lamps, and how dirty the reflectors are all move the dose. Drop the film before you ask for a “stronger” ink.
Immediate foil, blister, or die-cut only after the sheet is actually cured. A finger test at the delivery is not a record. Write the press, the speed, and the batch on the pull you keep.
What to send HuiRun with the inquiry
Press model, mercury or LED, stock name, finishing that must happen the same day, and kilos. We will point at Honglu UV or a LOCOER UV grade and attach that grade’s TDS. We will not promise the sheet is dry at your speed.
What the quote covers
HuiRun does not build presses or lamps. A quotation is not a cure certificate, and a low process VOC is not a migration file. If the brand needs food-contact paperwork, that letter has to come from the factory against the buyer’s own test.
Key questions
- What is the short answer?

- How should the numbers in this article be used?
- The ranges here are typical shop practice. Confirm them on your press, paper lot, and lamps or dryer. Catalog numbers stay on the data sheet; the signed sheet comes from a trial.
