LED-UV versus mercury UV offset ink: match the lamp, then the tin
LED-UV ink is formulated for a narrow wavelength. Putting it under a mercury lamp—or the reverse—is a common reason for tacky sheets.
Two lamps, two photoinitiator packages
Mercury UV lamps emit a broad spectrum. LED-UV arrays emit a narrow band, often around 365–395 nm depending on the module. Ink chemists tune photoinitiators to that light. A tin labelled LED-UV is not a universal energy-curable ink.
HuiRun quotes LOCOER UV-G for conventional UV trains and LOCOER LED-UV for LED-equipped sheetfed units, plus Honglu UV when that own-brand line fits. We will ask which lamps you actually run before we ship.
- Read the lamp type on the job ticket, not only “UV press.”
- Dose at the sheet still decides cure; ink cannot invent missing watts.
- LED modules age; a new tin will not fix a dead bar.
- Do not mix LED and mercury leftovers in one fountain.
- Incomplete-cure checks belong in the related UV guide.
When plants convert a mercury press to LED
The ink room must quarantine mercury-UV stock. Rollers, washes, and blankets may also change. Budget a trial of LED-UV process colours on the live board before you throw away the mercury inventory.
Heat, odor, and finishing
LED typically puts less IR heat into the sheet. That can help films that warp under mercury. It does not automatically mean lower odor; undercure still smells. Immediate finishing still needs a measured dose and the right film weight.
RFQ fields we need
Lamp brand and type, number of bars, speed, stock, and whether you run LED-UV or mercury today. We will name UV-G, LED-UV, or Honglu UV and attach the TDS that belongs to that SKU.
What the quote covers
A quotation is not a dose certificate. Measure with a radiometer your maintenance team trusts.

- How should the numbers in this article be used?
- The ranges here are typical shop practice. Confirm them on your press, paper lot, and lamps or dryer. Catalog numbers stay on the data sheet; the signed sheet comes from a trial.
