Offset ink for synthetic paper and POP plastics: when conventional still works
POP and synthetic-paper jobs look like paper and behave like film. Conventional “POP” sheetfed inks exist, but many closed faces still need UV.
The stock is the specification
Point-of-purchase cards, lenticular pieces, and “paper-like” synthetics often have a closed face. Oxidative ink has nowhere to set. A conventional POP / synthetic-paper grade is formulated with more holdout and a different tack window so it can print on some treated plastics and synthetic papers on a sheetfed press.
It is still not UV. If the face is fully non-absorbent or the customer wants immediate finishing, LOCOER UV-G or LED-UV, or Honglu UV, is the honest family.
- Name the mill sheet: PP, PET, synthetic paper, or coated board with a film.
- Ask whether the sheet is treated (corona / primer) this lot.
- Conventional POP ink ≠ a licence to skip UV on every plastic.
- Tape-test adhesion after the published wait, not at the delivery.
- HuiRun quotes LOCOER synthetic POP from the Furey list when it fits.
Typical failure modes
Smearing in the delivery, ink that wipes off with a dry thumb, and varnish that crawls. Those are stock–ink mismatches, not a “weak brand.” Powder will not invent absorbency.
If the plant already runs UV lamps, do not force a conventional POP tin to save a lamp hour on a job that will fail tape.
Trial that a buyer can repeat
Print a solid and a 50% screen. Wait the TDS window. Tape, fold, and, if you coat, lay the varnish you will actually use. Photograph lot codes on the sheet and the tin.
Send HuiRun a trim of the stock and whether lamps are available. We will shortlist conventional POP or UV from what we are authorized to sell.
Fountain and wash
Some synthetics hate alcohol-heavy fountains; some hate too much water. Keep the wash chemistry compatible with the roller compound you use for UV or conventional—do not mix trains.
What the quote covers
Adhesion is a system of treatment, ink, time, and coat. We will name the grade and attach the data sheet, then ask you to tape-test on the lot you will buy.

- How should the numbers in this article be used?
- The ranges here are typical shop practice. Confirm them on your press, paper lot, and lamps or dryer. Catalog numbers stay on the data sheet; the signed sheet comes from a trial.
